Getting started with Twitter UpdateReminder

Does this sound familiar?

"No!! I've just missed my 1000th tweet."

Then this is the service for you.

UpdateReminder is a simple Twitter service which notifies its followers when they are approaching their next milestone. Meaning you won't miss those moments to get your party hat on and prepare your dedications ever again!

Getting Started

1) Make sure you've got yourself a Twitter Account and you've logged in.
2) Follow the UpdateReminder service which can be found at - http://www.twitter.com/updateReminder

UpdateReminder (UR) will automatically accept you as a new user and will then follow you back. If you're a private user please check your follower requests.

And that's it, you're ready to go.

So how does it work?

Once you start following UR the service will quietly sit in the background and watch your status count (the number of tweets that you've done). Once you come within 10 tweets ( messages ) of your personal milestone UR will send you a little private message to tell you it's coming up.

By default, when you first follow UR, your milestone will be set to 100, which means it will message you every time your about to pass 100, 200, 300, 400 etc. tweets.

How do I change my milestone?
Send a direct message to UR with the following command:

update 500

So this tells UR that you want to be sent a reminder every 500 tweets ( ... 1000, 1500, 2000 etc.)

I've forgotten what I've set as my milestone. How do I find out?
Send a direct message to UR with the following command:

stats

You'll then receive a direct message back from UR shortly after telling you what your current setting is, when you're next milestone is and how many you've done so far.

Ok, I've had enough how do I stop this thing?

If you're getting reminders too often then one approach is to increase the milestone to suit something which is more helpful.

The other question you might also want to ask is:

"Am I maybe using Twitter a bit too much?" :-)

If all else fails then simply unfollow UR and it will stop messaging you.
